The cost to care for a horse is a 24/7 effort and very expensive. Even though we fund the horses through program revenues, it doesn't cover the full daily cost of the herd. The average cost to pay for one horses NOW is about $8500 per year. This amount covers one horse's food (grain and hay), bedding, farrier services, worming and annual vaccinations, and barn staff giving care. It doesn't even cover the cost of the land and facilities in an expensive area like Great Falls.
